Stuart travels the world with his collection of instruments and loves to spread joy through music, with spontaneous (and scheduled) acts of musical kindness. Have you ever been treated to a spontaneous serenade in an airport gate, or in the waiting room of a doctor’s office? If you heard soulful and peaceful refrains coming from a smiling Ukulele player, that was Stu.
Stuart Fuchs has worked as a performing musician, teaching artist & workshop facilitator for nearly 20 years—playing many styles of music on Guitar, Ukulele & healing music on overtone rich instruments such as Tibetan Singing Bowls and the Aboriginal Didjeridoo. Stuart has been called a “modern day pied piper” and has performed & taught music to a diverse array of populations—from corporate executives & toy designers at Fisher-Price Inc., developmentally disabled adults, juvenile offenders, and hospice patients. Stuart believes passionately in the healing power of music to be a vehicle for personal expression & wellness—he finds great joy & purpose in guiding individuals into a more humanistic and natural experience of their innate musicality.
As a band leader and sideman Stuart has toured & performed extensively—most notably with his award-winning gypsy jazz band “Babik” (bah-beek). Babik was featured on Public Radio International’s “The World” and has performed in concert halls & festivals across the U.S. Stuart has collaborated to create original arrangements for Babik of Django Reinhardt’s music for Symphony Orchestra, which he performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and contemporary ballet. For five years Stuart has worked as an Artist-in-Residence at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo N.Y. where he shares the healing nature of music and the creative process with patients, families and hospital staff.
Stuart studied improvisation with Grammy-Winning Cellist/Composer David Darling for five years and is a certified Music for People ™ instructor. Stuart has presented his “Awakening the Creative Soul” program at Yoga Centers across the U.S., Costa Rica, Bermuda and Thailand.
As a spirit musician Stuart has studied & practiced Yoga and Meditation for over 15 years and is experienced in the use of Naad Yoga (Yoga of Sound), Mantra, and Kirtan (sacred chanting) for wellness and personal transformation. He and his partner Sarah Siri Kirtin Carlisle offer transformational workshops in Naad Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Soul Liberation through Music Improvisation, as well as performing sacred chant music together.
Stuart is deeply committed to the practice of a more holistic & humanistic vision of music education. “Musical expression is the birthright of all people. ANYONE can lean to play” S.F.
